SICGOOMH

You might remember that a few months ago we launched a series called SICGOOMH or “Songs I Can’t Get Out of My Head.”

Well, currently that song is the new Death Cab for Cutie Single “I Will Possess Your Heart” (full 8:30 version here):

That’s right, the full verison of the song is 8:30 long. As one of the commentators on YouTube put it “An intro. twice as long as the actual song? Prententious much, Death Cab?” And yes, that’s exactly what they are, pretentious. But for some reason, I don’t mind this. DCFC never pretended to be anything other than what they are. Are they pretentious? Yes. No other asshole has an instrumental intro. longer than the lyrical section of the song in an era driven by radio plays and the demands of a short attention span buying public. But DCFC does. And God bless ‘em.

Also, with this song they advance the Stalker genre (dominated by the Police’s “Every Breath You Take”), which has been greatly in need of a revival.

It’s not a world shaking or life changing song, but dammit if we’re not suckers for bands who don’t pretend to be something other than what they are. DCFC is elitist, snobbish, hipster, WASP music that appeals to highly educated 20s and 30s. In other words, they make music for us. We like it.

Dogs

We herek at SeventoNine have three dogs.  One of these dogs has a shirt sleeve as her favorite toy to play with.  But that doesn’t even really convey the extent of it.  It’s not a shirt sleeve so much as it is just the very end of the sleeve of a white t-shirt.  The dog has stretched this piece of fabric beyond recognition.  It now looks more like a cotton hula-hoop than a shirt sleeve.  If I told you that this particular animal belonged to the one of the spouses of SeventoNine, would you be surprised?

WTTW IV: Wedding Anniversaries

Word to the Wise: Wedding anniversaries are a time for celebration.  The eve of your wedding anniversary, however, is a time for reflection, for assessing whether or not you made the right decision those many years or months ago.  Well let us be the first to say that watching American Beauty on this day is not a way to ensure that you’ll make it to the actual anniversary.  We’re happy to report here, though, that the characters in the movie do not scare us so much as disgust us.  They do not seem like people we may become, but rather people we do and always have pitied.  If the balance ever shifts in the other direction, well, let’s just say that we hope, and pray and work every day on our marriages to ensure that it doesn’t.

Fan the Flames

Seven to Nine would like to officially go on the record and say that we are not responsible for the wildfires in California.  We know that we’re hot, but we are not capable of producing lightning…yet.
