Brilliantly Awful

Okay, so maybe some of you (e.g., the other half of STN) don’t care about this, but I do.  I’ll admit, I’m something of a connoisseur of SNL music performances.  I distinctly remember my musical life being changed/confirmed when Pearl Jam made their first appearance.  They owned that place.  Mostly, though, the SNL music is all about unintentional comedy.  The singers think it’s a real venue, but really, they’re just another sketch.

Well that was taken to new levels recently when Kesha was on.  She’s basically a parody of herself on a show that is a parody of music performance.  The irony is almost too much.  What pushes it over the edge is that it has to be, hands down, the worst actual performance (Simpson notwithstanding) that I’ve seen on the show in a long time.  The lip syncing is truly gawdawful and the bizarre dance moves are unspeakably horrendous. And what’s with the American flag and robot theme?  It just rates right up there at the top for me.

Please, do yourself a favor and stick around until the 3:15 mark to see the (frickin) laser keyboard. Kesha will suggest that maybe WE are the aliens. It will blow your mind.

It’s all schtick and no substance…and it’s done poorly.  What could be better?
